On August 13, 2019, two volunteers from Safe Hospitals Africa made their way to three different hospitals, namely, Karakoro, Tioro and Napie, all of which are located in rural areas of Korhogo; a town in Northern Ivory Coast. The volunteers had the opportunity to interact with members of the hospitals and see first hand the difficulties with which the patients and staff were faced due to the poor hospital conditions. As a first step for ensuring that mothers within these hospitals had some of the basic necessities required to help bring up their new born babies, the volunteers donated more than 200 sets of baby clothing and hospital bed sheets to each hospital. The sheets will serve to cover the hospital beds to ensure that both mothers and babies are exposed to a sanitary environment. The baby clothes will be given to mothers upon delivery of their babies. This initiative aims to reduce maternal and infant mortality rate, as it will encourage expecting mothers to consider hospitals for the delivery of their babies, rather than giving birth at home in unsafe conditions. Safe Hospitals would like to thank their volunteers Souleymane Coulibaly and Salif Touré as well as every individual who donated clothing, for their contribution in creating Safe Hospitals in Africa.
